Resin-based Demineralization Plants
Reliable Ion Exchange Solutions for High-purity Water Production

Technology Overview

Industries requiring ultra-pure water for boilers, pharmaceuticals, power generation and electronics cannot tolerate dissolved salts or minerals in feedwater. Resin-based demineralization (DM) systems provide a proven solution for producing high-quality deionized water through ion exchange technology. In this process, cation exchange resins replace positively charged ions (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺) with H⁺, while anion exchange resins replace negatively charged ions (Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻, NO₃⁻) with OH⁻, which then combine to form pure H₂O.

WOG Technologies Limited designs and delivers resin-based DM plants that ensure consistent water purity, low conductivity and minimal silica levels for critical process applications. Our solutions are engineered for both greenfield and retrofit installations and support zero liquid discharge (ZLD) and reuse strategies.

How it Works

Resin-based DM plants use cation and anion exchange resins to remove dissolved salts and produce demineralized water:

  • Cation exchange stage: Hydrogen-form resins replace positively charged ions (calcium, magnesium, sodium) with hydrogen ions.
  • Anion exchange stage: Hydroxide-form resins replace negatively charged ions (chloride, sulfate, nitrate, silica) with hydroxide ions.
  • Mixed-bed polishing: Provides final polishing for ultra-low conductivity and silica removal in critical applications.
  • Regeneration cycles: Automated acid and caustic regeneration ensures resin longevity and stable performance.

Technology Benefits

  • Produces water with conductivity as low as 0.1 µS/cm and silica < 0.02 ppm.
  • Modular configuration for scalable flow rates from small process lines to large power stations.
  • Optimized resin life with efficient regeneration and minimal chemical usage.
  • Integration with SCADA for automated monitoring, flow control and predictive maintenance.
  • Compatible with upstream pretreatment and downstream polishing (EDI, RO) for advanced water systems.
